Receiving a New Lease on Life
Don Rush credits his Irish roots and a long career in law enforcement for a toughness that has helped him weather numerous storms in life. But a cunning adversary came knocking a few years ago, sorely testing his mettle.
During a routine physical, Don’s primary care physician noticed a small bump on his prostate. Don felt fine and his prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test had come back normal, but his doctor didn’t want to take chances. She referred him to a urologist for a closer look. The urologist also felt the suspicious bump and ordered biopsies.
Don was surprised to learn he had an aggressive form of prostate cancer. His doctor’s recommended radiation therapy, which Don agreed to with typical aplomb.
“With Diane (his wife), a great team of doctors, nurses and other professionals on my side, I knew I could get through this.”
Sure enough, Don did get through it, thanks in large part to the team at Banner MD Anderson’s Radiation Oncology Center on the Banner Boswell Medical Center campus. See video.
Don’s last check-up showed that the cancer is in remission. He and Diane feel blessed and are looking forward to fulfilling a long-held dream of exploring new places together.
“I now have a new lease on life,” Don says, and he’s not alone.
Advances in treatment are helping more and more cancer patients to beat the odds.
Right now, Banner Del E. Webb and Banner Boswell medical centers are expanding cancer care services on their campuses. Your support now, or later through an estate gift, will help people like Don to access the latest and best care available, giving them healing and hope. Who knows? Your support might give them a new lease on life, too.
